Sag Low Budget Theatrical Agreement

Because of the size and influence of the union, most major media companies have a collective agreement with SAG-AFTRA through the Association of Film and Television Producers (AMPTP). These include studios, production companies, commercial production companies and even individual producers. Producers and companies that sign a contract or letter of contract with the EU in their area of competence are referred to as ”signatories”. If your budget falls below $50,000, you should refer to SAG`s KURZfrist agreement. If your budget exceeds $1,000, 000, it gets a little more complicated. THE SAG-AFTRA New Media Treaty is essentially the EU`s response to online content. The New Media Agreement covers drama (scripted) and non-drama (non-scripted) entertainment productions scheduled for the first Internet exhibition, mobile devices or any other new media platform. Think of webisodes, reality shows and movies originally released online (yes, that means Netflix falls under new media, not theatre). Note to independent manufacturers: SAG-AFTRA has announced two new agreements for low-budget projects, in addition to some updates to existing agreements. These changes will take effect on February 1, 2020.

As part of this special theatrical convention, you can only hire SAG-AFTRA actors as lead actors and the first 57 engaged background actors must also be unionized. If your production requires more than 57 background actors, the 58th recruitment and beyond should not be unionized and are therefore not covered by the terms of the theatre contract. If you are considering hiring a Principal Performer or background actor (and not having hired 57 other substantive actors) who are not yet members of SAG-AFTRA, you have 30 days after signing the contract to submit the Taft-Hartley report to your representative, with a headshot and CV, in order to grant union status and comply with the contractual rules. The Student Film Agreement applies to student films that meet the course requirements of a fully accredited educational institution shot in the United States with a budget of less than $35,000 and a duration of less than 35 minutes. And unlike other SAG AFTRA theatrical agreements, you don`t need to provide theatrical performance as part of this agreement. The SAG Modified Low Budget Agreement applies to films with budgets ranging from $250,000 to $700,000. The daily sag price is $335 and the weekly SAG rate is $1166. Non-union actors are allowed, while substantive actors are not covered. The residues are based on formulas that take into account, for example.
